ROSA MARCHETTI SEMI-WHOLE RICE

Rosa Marchetti Rice is an ancient, rare and fine Italian rice variety.

The cultivation of Rosa Marchetti rice variety was abandoned by conventional farming because of the low production yield, and the easily bending stems.


It smells and tastes so unique and different that is instantly recognisable.

The grain is small and has a dark pearly color.

During cooking acquires a pinkish grey color remaining soft outside and more crispy in the center.

The cooking time is approximately 20/22 minutes.


The Rosa Marchetti Rice is excellent for cooking impeccable timbales and risottos, and it is especially recommended for preparing delicious rice soups, such as rice and parsley, a traditional Lombard dish.

SEMI-WHOLE ROSA MARCHETTI RICE

This authentic semi-whole Rosa Marchetti variety rice is grown in Lomellina area, at the Riserva San Massimo, a natural area in the heart of Parco del Ticino.


The 500 hectares of Riserva San Massimo is one of the most interesting natural oasis of the Ticino Park, characterized by a high level of biodiversity


This rice variety first appeared in the 1960s, when Domenico Marchetti, already known for selecting the Arborio variety, stumbled on a new type of rice in a field.

He called it Rosa Marchetti, dedicating it to his wife.


It is a wild variety, and its parentage is unknown.


Its flavour is a winner; the rice is perfect for soups.


At Riserva San Massimo, Rosa Marchetti rice fields are surrounded by wooded strips and do not undergo any chemical treatment neither during pre-sowing nor growth and storage.


The only fertilizer used for Rosa Marchetti Rice is the organic decomposition of vetch and macerated ryegrass.


The Rosa Marchetti is an early variety that grows quickly thus getting the better of many weeds, on the other hand, when a full-sized plant, the stems bend easily and has a low production yield.

The cultivation of the authentic Rosa Marchetti Rice is very challenging, and only those farmers with vast experience can deal with it.
